Coloradans LOVE Fall. After almost 2 decades here, it’s more than sweater weather, pumpkin anything, and the crisp air. It’s the Aspen leaves!
Now, you may be thinking, as you read, we are in winter, why are we discussing fall?
It’s those leaves changing into golden yellow hues, reds, oranges, and more that we sought out back roads, mountain passes, and aspen groves to see that give us the HOPE that winter will not stay forever. As the leaves transitioned from color to color, taking our breath away as they decorated the landscape, they are in fact preparing for spring already. The trees shed the old, making room for new blossoms to come and with them hope of new life, new seasons, new opportunities.
Even those falling on the ground fertilize the ground for more trees, more growth, and fodder for the snowy season now upon us. They are working even when we can’t see them, when they no longer have color, and we think they no longer offer life. And yet … spring is coming. Hope is just around the corner! The leaves will fall but spring always comes.
Just a few short years ago, we needed to pack a wheelchair for my kiddo to go leaf peeping that fall. She viewed from the car mainly and took cat naps between stops. This year she bounded out of the car, clambered over rocks, and laughed as we got lost on a mountain pass road. The hard moments, albeit are hard, they are but a moment.
They shift and change as we grow, and our seasons transition. Every season is temporary, even in our lives. Even when things seem so difficult, it will not last forever. And yes, some seasons seem so much longer than others.
The difficulties are just like those leaves. We think the hard moments have left us colorless, drab, perhaps even falling apart, and yet …
Those moments are exactly what is preparing us for spring, hope, and life more abundantly! Enjoy a cup of hot chocolate, fuzzy socks, and nestling in with your loved one, while you trust that hope springs forth.
